Lisbon: After nearly a decade together and years of wedding rumours, football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez have officially become husband and wife.
The Portugal captain and his longtime partner tied the knot in a private civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, on August 11, bringing an end to months of speculation over when and where the couple would exchange their vows. Their five children were present at the intimate ceremony.
Rather than making a grand public announcement, Ronaldo and Georgina confirmed the marriage in a much simpler way. The couple shared a photograph of their hands showing their wedding rings, immediately sending fans and followers into celebration.
The announcement came exactly one year after Georgina publicly revealed their engagement on August 11, 2025. The timing added another special connection to a relationship that has remained one of the world’s most closely followed celebrity romances.
Years of rumours finally come to an end
The wedding followed a period of intense speculation. In the days before the ceremony, reports suggested that Ronaldo and Georgina would marry at a cathedral in Funchal, Madeira, Ronaldo’s hometown.
The rumours became so convincing that hundreds of fans gathered outside the cathedral hoping to see the football star and his bride. But the crowd was left disappointed when the woman walking towards the altar turned out to be another bride, Nicole, who was marrying her partner Fabio.
Ronaldo later appeared to enjoy the amusing mix-up, responding to a social media post about the incident with laughing emojis. His family had also denied reports that the couple were preparing to marry that particular weekend.
A relationship that began at a Gucci store
Ronaldo and Rodriguez first met in 2016, when Georgina was working at a Gucci store. Their relationship gradually became public, with the pair making their first major red-carpet appearance together at the Best FIFA Football Awards in Zurich in January 2017.
Over the years, their relationship developed into a family life shared largely away from the football spotlight.
Ronaldo has previously spoken about how unexpectedly serious the relationship became. He said he initially did not expect to fall deeply in love, but eventually came to view Georgina as the woman he wanted to spend his life with.
A family at the centre of their story
Ronaldo and Georgina are raising a family of five children. They share daughters Alana and Bella, while Georgina also helps raise Ronaldo’s eldest son Cristiano Jr. and his twins, Eva Maria and Mateo.
The family experienced a devastating loss in 2022 when Bella’s twin brother died shortly after birth.
Despite the pressures of Ronaldo’s global football career and constant media attention, the couple have continued to build their family life together.
Now, after years of speculation, engagement rumours and even a mistaken wedding crowd in Madeira, Ronaldo and Georgina have officially taken the next step.
The football icon has finally exchanged the pitch for a wedding ring — and after nearly 10 years together, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez are now husband and wife.
